Tube guards are designed as lamp sleeves or plastic tubing to protect an area from a broken lamp. Tube guards are typically found in grocery stores, restaurants and other places to shield the environment in case of breakage.

Other uses for tube guards include the screening out of UV (ultra-violet) light in libraries, art galleries and museums, thus protecting documents, as well as works of art and history. UV (ultra-violet light) blocking is critical in certain lit environments to prevent damage.
