Low Pressure Sodium

Although this technology is dated, we still provide a selection of Low Pressure Sodium lamps for those who still need them. LPSs (Low Pressure Sodium Lamps) have a glass tube containing sodium and a mixture of neon and argon gas to start the gas discharge. Because they were the most efficient electrically powered light source considering photopic lighting conditions before newer technologies were explored, Low Pressure Sodium lamps were widely used for outdoor lighting such street and security lighting.

Low Pressure Sodium lamps are closely related to fluorescent lights because they have low-pressure, low-intensity discharge. They also emit a soft glow verses a bright arc, unlike HID lamps. LPSs do not go out during voltage dips, but restrike quickly to full brightness. Lumen output does not decline with lamp age, but energy usage increases slightly.
