Recycling

As the world changes, so must we . . . at Dallas Light Bulb Delivery, we are dedicated to helping customers choose recycling options that are affordable and easy. We use Veolia products and recycling system to ensure that your fluorescent bulbs and other hazardous materials are properly disposed of. Recycling small amounts of lighting waste doesn’t have to be a challenge.

Some people still do not realize that light bulbs can and should be recycled. The glass, aluminum, mercury, and even the phosphor powder from fluorescent light bulbs can be recycled. Some companies, like Sylvania, recycle mercury to use in new light bulbs, lowering the need and use of new mercury. Recycling should start at the beginning of a products life, which is now required by law with the use of recycled glass in new light bulb products.

Lighting systems today are more energy efficient and environmentally friendly than ever. However, mercury is a component of many energy-saving light bulbs, such as fluorescent bulbs, including compact fluorescents (CFLs) and high intensity discharge bulbs (HIDs). According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), over 670 million bulbs containing mercury are discarded each year. Many end up in landfills without proper disposal.

Most lighting waste is regulated by the Federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA), Superfund liability laws and the Universal Waste Rule, which is to help simplify the proper management and recycling of certain lighting waste.

After a compact fluorescent light bulb burns out, we encourage the recycling of such products. Check with your local trash and recycling collection to find out the best way to dispose of mercury containing products, such as CFLs, or simply use Veolia RecyclePak solutions. Simply fill a container and ship it for proper disposal. It is prepaid.

Dallas Light Bulb offers several recycling options for the following products:

  • Straight Fluorescent Lamps
  • CFLs – (Compact Fluorescent Lights)
